sunday woes
2 hours on the road now. the electricity failure in the area has affected the entire kings cross station operations. go down to the kings cross tube & the underground is shut. so walk through a myriad diversions (everything is dug up along the way) to kings cross thames. buy a tkt, go down 3 flights & am told it’s shut. help a lone chinese woman cart her heavy suitcase up. broken english. meet a black man on the road who is seeking alms. give him a pound, climb a bus to euston. hot, hot, hot! sweaty caribbean family next to me. a fire engine chases the bus through thick traffic with alarm on full blast. get off & lug her suitcase to euston. down a few flights to the underground & in to the train. get off wishing her luck. the flight home is in an hour & half. wonder whether she caught it. euston to oxford circus, change the line to waterloo.
happy travelers at the eurorail junction. it’s the end of the week & not many people at waterloo junction. & now onwards to windsor & eton riverside. all on a sandwich since morning.
